JOIN US IN BUILDING THE PARISH MOVEMENT
It’s not hard to find heartbreaking problems, both within and well beyond the Church. We hear about them each and every day. What we don’t hear about nearly as often is how thousands of resilient and deeply contextual communities of faith are focused on the dreams of God, right where they are.
From the beginning until now, the organizational hunch of the Parish Collective hasn’t really changed. We believe the movement we desperately need doesn’t so much need to be created, it needs to be connected.
After a decade of listening, convening, and celebrating ordinary heroes, we have come to 3 key convictions. We are writing because if these beliefs stir you, if something deep inside you wants them to be true, we want to build this next era of the Parish Collective with you.
1. We believe the Church is the hope of the world. We know for some of you this might be the hardest pill to swallow, but we are convinced there is nothing like the body of Christ anywhere else on the planet.
2. We believe the neighborhood (or parish) is the unit of change. We need a practical pathway and tangible network that addresses individual, communal, and structural change. It’s the most practical path to joining God in renewing and restoring everything.
3. We believe leadership is convening. The future we long to see absolutely will require leadership, and it will look like warm invitations, creative environments, and rhythms and structures for peer networks to grow, rather than technique oriented solutions.
If you felt your heart rate rise, or even if you found yourself wanting to trust that these ideas could be true we are asking you for an investment of time, attention, and financial resources.
We are at a juncture where we want to build a far broader coalition across cities, denominations, and cultural differences who share in our mission to “connect people to be the Church in the neighborhood.”
Through your support, we are working hard to create a clear and tangible pathway of next steps to connect each other with the relationships, ideas, and even institutional resources you need to join with others to be the Church in the neighborhood.
This is the first time we’ve done an end of year appeal in the history of our organization, and we do so with great joy and gratitude that we get to do this work together.
I personally want to thank you in advance not only for considering, but for your resilience, for your open-heartedness, and your desire to keep the faith in such a tumultuous time.
With gratitude,
Tim Soerens
